I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to collaborate on a branding campaign for Nike. I worked with a team of four other students to find, research and develop an outreach strategy for Nike to enter into a niche market. We chose to set our work apart by focusing on Mixed Martial Arts. We subsequently presented to a team of Nike Executives at the Beaverton campus, to a very positive response from them. I developed the idea to pitch NikeiD for custom MMA apparel, to which the Nike Executives were very favorable.
As a strategist in a design role, I had the opportunity to visualize my brand thinking. After extensive research and interviewing, I focused on creating a book that retained the look and feel of Nike, while positing MMA as a favorable market segment. As MMA is sometimes misconceived as a violent, one-dimensional sport, I specifically moved away from the color red. My hope was to convey the strength and integrity of MMA fighters through my design and color palette. I also used typography and spacing to enhance readability, brand affinity, and overall aesthetic.
